Have you adopted a dog or cat from a rescue and want to show the world how cute they are?
Tell us how your precious pet came into your life and what they mean to you and they could be featured in our 2013 calendar!
The winning pets will be calendar stars and will have their pictures taken by award winning photographer Aaron Street.
Proceeds will be donated to Columbia County Animal Protection Society.

The contest is open to dog and cats that have been adopted from rescue shelters or organizations. Deadline to enter is June 31.

It Looks A Ruff Now, But This Work of Art Will Soon Be Finished

In an age when outdoor advertising often consists of plastic banners or flashy electronic signs, the idea of actually painting a sign on the side of a building is something of a throwback. But it’s all the rage at a new Magnolia business.

Home Sweet Bone is in the process of painting the exterior of its building – the former Peace Builders Supply on North Vine Street. Owner Jennifer Pinson is taking advantage of a large exterior wall that faces traffic going north on North Vine to identify her business to passers-by.

She employed friend Anne Lee, who holds a bachelor of fine arts in graphic design from Southern Arkansas University, to come up with something eye-catching for the dog daycare business.

The result is a 12-foot-high reproduction of the business logo, which was modeled on Lizzie, a rescue dog that is a pit bull mix and one of Pinson’s many canine friends. While the unfinished work hasn’t exactly stopped traffic, it has gotten people to slow down and take a look.

Lee is using outdoor Latex paint to fashion the sign – no easy task since she is afraid of heights. But by Thursday, there was sufficient progress to tell what is in store for the wall. The sign should be finished this weekend, weather permitting.
